Code, Data, and Compassion: How Taemoor Hasan is Engineering Social Change

Code, Data, and Compassion: How Taemoor Hasan is Engineering Social Change
21 May 2025 by livingstonesglobal.org

At Living Stones Foundation, we believe that technology is not just a tool for efficiency but a powerful catalyst for social transformation. Our Data Innovators for Change program harnesses the brilliance of technical minds to solve some of humanity’s most pressing challenges. Today, we shine a spotlight on Taemoor Hasan, a remarkable young software engineer whose passion for data science and heartfelt commitment to humanitarian causes exemplifies our mission of lighting up nations for a brighter future.

A Mind Shaped for Innovation

When you first meet Taemoor, his quiet confidence and thoughtful approach might not at once reveal the computational powerhouse behind his friendly demeanor. Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a specialized Certificate in Artificial Intelligence at Purdue University, Taemoor has consistently demonstrated academic excellence with his impressive 3.74 GPA.

“I’ve always been fascinated by how data can tell stories that might otherwise remain hidden,” Taemoor shared during one of our team strategy sessions. “Every dataset contains patterns and insights that, when properly analyzed, can guide us toward better decisions and more impactful solutions.”

This philosophy has guided his academic journey through advanced coursework in data structures, software design, and linear algebra—building blocks that would later become foundational to his work in humanitarian data analysis.

From Campus to Cause: A Technical Mind with a Humanitarian Heart

Taemoor’s journey to Living Stones Foundation reflects the beautiful intersection of technical ability and humanitarian passion. Simultaneously, he demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by designing Shopify eCommerce sites for businesses ranging from ambitious startups to established enterprises.

His current parallel role as an Undergraduate Data Science Researcher at The Data Mine – Purdue University has him collaborating with healthcare giant Elevance Health on sophisticated cybersecurity defense mechanisms—experience that would prove invaluable to our data protection protocols.

But it was in January 2025 when Taemoor found his true calling, joining Living Stones Foundation as a Big Data Analyst Intern in our Data Innovators for Change program. What began as an opportunity to apply his technical skills to meaningful projects quickly evolved into something much more profound—a personal mission to leverage data for humanitarian impact.

Illuminating Patterns, Transforming Lives

“The moment I realized we could predict migration patterns using historical data was transformative,” Taemoor recalls. “Suddenly, we weren’t just looking at numbers—we were seeing families, understanding their movements, and gaining insights that could help us position resources exactly where they would be needed most. I will be developing for an SQL and AWS servers based on our projects.

This revelation sparked what has become Taemoor’s signature contribution to our foundation: a sophisticated data analytics framework that tracks and anticipates migration flows across regions affected by economic hardship, conflict, and environmental challenges. Using Python, SQL, and R, he has developed models that help our teams deploy targeted aid with unprecedented precision.

One of his most impactful projects involved analyzing donor contribution patterns using advanced predictive modeling techniques. Where we once relied on intuition and general demographic insights, Taemoor’s visualizations in Power BI and Tableau have transformed our fundraising approach, allowing us to find potential supporters with remarkable accuracy while tailoring our communication to resonate with their specific interests and values.

“Every donor has a story and a reason for giving,” Taemoor explains. “When we understand those motivations through data, we can create more meaningful connections that sustain long-term relationships rather than one-time contributions.”

Building Infrastructure for Lasting Change

Most critically, Taemoor recognized early on that our growing data needs required a more robust infrastructure. Taking initiative beyond his formal responsibilities, he advocated for and helped develop an AWS and SQL Server architecture that dramatically improved our data storage and analytics capabilities.

“Scalability isn’t just a technical requirement—it’s a humanitarian imperative,” he insists. “As our work expands to new regions and communities, our systems must grow seamlessly to support that mission.”

This infrastructure has become the backbone of multiple programs across our organization, enabling teams to securely share insights, coordinate responses, and measure impacts with unprecedented efficiency. What’s remarkable is how Taemoor has translated complex technical concepts into accessible language, empowering non-technical team members to leverage these tools effectively in their work.

Collaboration Across Boundaries

Those who work closely with Taemoor consistently highlight his exceptional ability to bridge technical and non-technical worlds. While many brilliant engineers struggle to translate their ability into layperson’s terms, Taemoor has a natural gift for making complex concepts accessible.

This talent has proven invaluable in our cross-functional meetings, where program directors, field operators, and technical specialists must align on strategies and solutions. His experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams during his undergraduate research prepared him perfectly for the diverse perspectives represented within our organization.

“What makes Taemoor special isn’t just his technical skill—it’s his genuine interest in understanding the human dimensions of our work,” notes his team leader. “He asks questions about the communities we serve, the challenges they face, and how our technical solutions translate to real-world impact. That curiosity makes his analysis infinitely more valuable.”

A Future Built on Data and Compassion

As Taemoor continues to grow with Living Stones Foundation, his vision for data-driven humanitarian work grows increasingly ambitious. He’s currently exploring applications of machine learning to predict community resilience factors—insights that could revolutionize how we design intervention programs.

“The most powerful moment in data analysis isn’t finding the pattern,” Taemoor reflects. “It’s seeing how that pattern can be transformed into action that improves lives. That’s when technology truly serves humanity.”

For a young professional still completing his undergraduate education, Taemoor’s impact on our organization has been remarkable. He represents a new generation of technical talent—professionals who refuse to separate their technical expertise from their humanitarian values, instead finding profound purpose in applying advanced skills to address human suffering and create sustainable change.
